Bridges On The Wear

CHARTERSHAUGH BRIDGE

Built as part of a new road system it is a dual carriageway bridge on the A182 from Washington to Houghton-le-Spring. Designed by Travers Morgan and built by Mowlem Construction it is a low, wide bridge to the west of Fatfield.

Chartershaugh was a mining settlement nearby and a ford and ferry once existed here at Biddick.
