Bridges On The Tees

A66 SURTEES BRIDGE

This major bridge carries the A66 trunk road linking the A1(M) and Darlington with Middlesbrough. It was opened in 1982 and its 5 spans match the number of spans on the adjacent railway bridge. It now carries 6 lanes of traffic, and work to replace the 1982 bridge involving widening and strengthening has taken place in 2007, and includes a pedestrian and cycle track.

With the A1(M) Motorway bridge this is the busiest on the Tees and is part of the very extensive and improving road system on Teesside.
