MORPETH STEPPING STONES

An old crossing point and the latest of what may have been several stepping stones at Morpeth. The steps are concrete blocks of possibly 20th century origin set at regular intervals in the river bed. They are crossed from High Stanners on the west bank and lead to Newgate Street.

The river can run swiftly here after rain when the stepping stones are hazardous. The name Bakehouse Steps is their correct name.
