Bridges On The Tees

A19 TEES VIADUCT

This viaduct forms part of the A19 trunk road from the Tyne Tunnel and Sunderland to Thirsk and was completed in 1975. It is a lengthy viaduct at 2.9 Km with 68 spans and is located just upstream from the Newport bridge. It carries 4 lanes of traffic, more on the approach roads, and is the longest on the Tees.

There have been problems with corrosion since it was opened and repairs have been necessary at times. Curiously, it was built with sufficient clearance for ships though the port of Stockton was virtually redundant by then.
